In memory of Prof. Nicola Giordano
Celebration of the 25th anniversary of the disappearance of Professor Nicola Giordano founder and first Director (1980 – 1996) of the Institute for Advanced Energy Technologies "Nicola Giordano" (ITAE) of the National Research Council (Italy).
Professor Nicola Giordano founder of the Institute for Advanced Energy Technologies was an Italian pioneer of hydrogen technologies. He was also full professor of Industrial Chemistry at University of Messina. He introduced fuel cells in Italy in the seventies focusing on phosphoric acid and molten carbonate fuel cells. Hydrogen became the main research topic of CNR-ITAE and is now the object of a wide research activity. The scientific interests of Professor Nicola Giordano have also covered the topics of catalysis (including electrocatalysis) and industrial chemistry. His activity was characterized by a wide production of publications, patents for both Italian and international companies as well as for Italian National Council of Research and the University of Messina. He was author of more than 400 papers or communication to Congresses and more than 40 Italian patents, most of which extended to foreign countries. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, of the Electrochemical Society, the International Zeolite Association, the Sigma Xi, the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has served as a member of the board of Directors of the Italian Chemical Society (Division of Industrial Chemistry) and in numerous other Committees and institutions.
The event will be attended by his family, friends and colleagues to celebrate both the person and the scientist.
